Reports written with the assistance of the Foundation’s grants are noted in the descriptions of previous grants and are most easily obtained by contacting the organisations directly.
Third Sector Trends in England and Wales 2022
The Charity Commission has clarified that charities are allowed to campaign robustly and engage in political debate providing those actions align with their mission and has the backing of trustees. This report shows that many charities do ‘steer clear of political issues’, but this does not mean that they stop campaigning to effect changes in social and public policy. Available as a PDF document.

Funding Policy Change
The third MHF report Funding Policy Change in the North East of England described MHF’s work from 1996 to 2004. The report laid out themes that are still fundamental to the Foundation’s grantmaking, for example, the desire to make fewer larger grants, to concentrate on policy and campaigning, to work with those best able to develop policy that benefits the North East. Available as a PDF document.
