When Children North East described its project Poverty Proofing the School Day at a recent conference, a number of voluntary sector leaders began to wonder if they too could be unwittingly revealing and humiliating people living in poverty even while trying to help them. CNE’s project was warmly welcomed by schools which recognised the value of having well-intentioned but damaging practices exposed and quickly addressed. NCVS plans to work with members to identify areas where they can improve what they do and share their learning with others so that people in poverty are treated with respect throughout service provision.
